MOZA R5, R9 & R12 Skins: Choose the Right Base Version

For a MOZA base skin, choose the version before the livery. The Lovely Stickers products featured in this guide currently offer three options: R5, R9 V2 and V3, and R12 S4. These are separate selections, even when they share the same colours and appear together on one product page.

The tricky part is matching those options to the base already on your desk or rig. MOZA has several hardware generations, and a familiar black aluminium housing is not enough to identify the correct vinyl shape. Here is what to check, how to read the current LS listings and when a photo is more useful than a model name alone.

Which MOZA base version should you select?

The table below reflects the version selectors on the 44 2023 AMG Petronas Mercedes F1 Livery and 2024 Grello Porsche 911 GT3R Manthey Racing Livery, checked on 3 October 2026. Always check the design you intend to buy, rather than assuming every item in a collection has identical options.

Your base Option and check
MOZA R5 Select R5. Do not leave the page on its R12 default.
MOZA R9 V2 or V3 Select R9 V2 and V3 on these listings. The shared option is explicitly offered.
MOZA R12 matching the LS S4 reference Select R12 S4. The product description specifies the casing with front mounting holes.
R9 V1, an unidentified R12, or a base sold simply as R12 V2 Send the exact model information and casing photos before ordering. Do not translate a generation name into S4 by guesswork.

There is a small naming difference to be aware of: the description text still refers to R9 V2 RS28, while the current selectable option says R9 V2 and V3. The latter is the option offered for both generations on the two products above. R9 V1 is not included in that label.

R9 V2 and V3: hardware changes do not automatically mean a different skin

MOZA’s official R9 version guide distinguishes V1, V2 and V3. It identifies ES Steering Wheel support as the main V1-to-V2 compatibility difference, and lists a 21-bit magnetic encoder and upgraded conductive slip ring among the V3 changes.

Those are hardware and wheel-connection details. A sticker follows the exterior panels. For the designs checked here, LS groups V2 and V3 under one option; that conclusion comes from the sticker listing, not from a claim that the electronics are identical. Keep these two questions separate when shopping for other accessories, too.

R12 S4 and R12 V2: why the front view matters

The LS description specifies R12 model S4, with front mounting holes. Meanwhile, MOZA’s current R12 V2 product page also shows front mounting holes. Seeing those holes is therefore useful, but it is not enough to prove that every product sold under the R12 V2 name matches the LS S4 template.

The current R12 V2 has front mounting holes. That feature alone does not establish that it matches an LS listing labelled R12 S4; confirm the exact casing before ordering. Product image: MOZA Racing. View source.

If your order confirmation says only “R12” or “R12 V2”, use it as a starting point. Check any version marking on the base and send us a clear front view plus a side view if the S4 reference is not established. A seller’s title, purchase year or firmware version should not be used as a substitute for checking the casing.

This is a fitment check, not a recommendation to change your hardware. MOZA’s official mounting diagrams help with rig installation, but a mounting pattern alone does not describe every edge and opening of a sticker panel.

What to photograph before asking about compatibility

You can usually make the question much easier to answer with three details:

  • The model and version: copy the product name from the base or your purchase information, including V2, V3 or another reference if shown.
  • A front and side view: make the outer edges, front holes and finned sections visible. Include the top if an accessory obscures part of the casing.
  • The design link: send the exact LS product you want, together with the version you were planning to select.

Photograph the equipment as it is safely accessible; there is no need to open the housing to identify a decorative kit. Use our Contact page or email info@lovelystickers.com. Resolve an unclear version before placing the order.

Read the flat artwork as well as the finished look

The 44 2023 AMG design uses dark panels, turquoise accents and yellow number graphics. Its flat catalogue image is useful for understanding how the decoration is divided around the casing. Notice the separate pieces and the opening around the shaft.

The pictured artwork is labelled R12. It is not a diagram of all three selectable versions. Choose the correct version on the product page and ask for clarification if you need to compare a different template. A shared livery means coordinated graphics; it does not mean one sheet should be stretched to fit every base.

Choosing a livery for the parts you can actually see

The Grello Porsche GT3R inspired design offers a much brighter yellow-and-green alternative. On a rig where the wheel and monitor hide most of the front, the side panels may contribute more to the appearance than the centre face. Look at your setup from the driving seat and from the side before choosing.

Both featured products offer the R5, R9 V2 and V3, and R12 S4 choices described above. Start in the MOZA R12, R9 and R5 base sticker collection, open a design you like, then check its version selection. These products are decorative vinyl kits; the wheel base shown in the catalogue is not included.

Before peeling the backing

The LS listings describe laminated polymer-based stickers for a clean, dry surface. They are ordinary adhesive stickers, not reusable covers intended for repeated removal and reapplication. Compare the pieces with the intended panels while the backing is still on, and plan their alignment around edges and openings.

Keep connectors, controls, moving parts and cooling areas clear. Do not bridge the finned sections simply to make two coloured panels meet, or force an uncertain piece into place. Follow the MOZA manual for your base if access requires any change to its mounting. This guide does not replace those installation instructions.

Quick answers before ordering

Will an R9 V3 skin work on an R9 V1?

The checked LS option explicitly says R9 V2 and V3. It does not confirm V1. Send the V1 details and photos before ordering.

Does updating Pit House change the kit I need?

Choose by the physical base version and casing. A software update does not reshape the exterior panels or make another model’s template fit.

Can I buy a base skin as a gift?

Yes, but first obtain the exact base version and a clear photo. Our sim racing gift guide explains how to check the recipient’s setup without relying on a brand name alone.

Confirm the base, select its version, then choose the design. Explore the MOZA base liveries, or contact us with photos if the model reference is unclear.
